VINCENT VAN GOGH (1853 – 1890)

A Dutch Post-Impressionist artist, best known for his expressive and dramatic use of bold colours, and impulsive brushwork.

Even though he struggled with poverty and mental illness, van Gogh produced more than 860 oil paintings, and more than 1300 drawings, sketches, and watercolours. As his style developed over the years, he ended with paintings characterized by intense colours and raw, instinctive emotion.

Sadly, van Gogh’s mental health worsened, and he ultimately committed suicide at the age of 37. His tragic life and demise created an enduring fascination with his work, and emblematic paintings like “The Starry Night”, “Sunflowers”, and “Irises”, made a profound impact on the development of modern art.
